For over 20 years, Denny and Fran Griffin have operated Griffin's Home Accents in Oala. Griffin's sold home decor, scrapbooking material, paintings, frames, beads, collectibles, Yankee Candles, Precious Moments, Crocs Footwear and much, much more. They have decided to shut the doors and thus have put everything in the store up for sale.
Another sad casualty of the economic downturn.

Je vois que l'Amérique souffre beaucoup de la crise. Je sais que les "soupes populaires" se développent beaucoup. Cette crise est une catastrophe mondiale mais ceux qui en sont responsables sont prêts à refaire les mêmes erreurs, hélas !
Hopefully, they'll find another opportunity to use their expertise and serve customers again. Some other day, some other place maybe. Twenty years is a long time to stay in business.
Such a sad sign of the times.
This is so disheartening! The big news here this morning is that one of the oldest family owned restaurants in Tallahassee, the Silver Slipper, has closed. They have been an institution here since 1938.
It is disheartening. Sorry to hear about the Silver Slipper. I'm afraid we're not at the bottom, yet.
This time the picture (not the photo) is really a bit sad. I hope something could change for the better, it's a pity for this shop and the people who worked there. Good post.

it really is heart breaking they can't stay in business - what will they do now? it's horrible!
It's so sad to hear that so many fine and old shops are closing down. I'm afraid it's the same here in Denmark. More and more streets have a lot of empty store windows :-(
There are so many places going out of business now. So sad.
I hope they have enough saved so they can retire at least. That is always a good reason to go out of business!
It sad to see smaller shops closing down. In our town it's not only the economy but the Walmart effect.
@ Ken - That's true here, too...we have three huge Walmarts in a relatively small community. But also, with regard to Griffins, they had to compete with a large Michaels and a Hobby Lobby, both of which sell many of the same/similar things at much lower prices.
That's too bad....we've see our local craft stores close, too, though.
I am sure the people that shop there regularly are disappointed as well. I miss my favorite shops that have closed. It's unsettling.

When we drive around town we're constantly debating whether a business is still open or closed. The failure rate is astonishing. It's very sad to see.

That is so sad...
My best friend and I considered Griffin's our "temple".We worshipped at the scrappingbooking section by traveling 35 miles from our homes.Our pilgramage took us by Michael's and by Hobby Lobby.The selection at Griffin's was superior to its competitors because of the passion from its staff.They loved scrapping as much as we have and the newest products they were to display always stood as a testiment to this fact....(heavy sigh)...Thanks for the memories and the inspiration to turn my own into little pages of art.Sincerely,Paula
