You will find this beautiful critter at the Homosassa Springs State Park.
Florida panthers have been protected for a number of years as their numbers were dwindling. But I read recently that protection may be lifted, which I think would be a shame. Nobody needs to hunt Florida panthers!

Nice kitty!
I agree Lowell! Were you there to see the manatees?
I imagine that would not only be a very controversial move but also a very idiotic one too... magnificent animal, and statue.
A beautiful critter indeed and a great capture!! I do hope they continue to protect them, but I'm sure that there are any number of people that would want to spend the money in other ways -- unfortunately!! Hope your week is going well, Lowell!! Love the pic of your book! I want to get a copy as soon as I can!! Hope your week is going well!!
I agree!
FYI: The temperature in East Gwillimbury is 87° today. Yikes, jus three degrees less than Ocala!
The wooden version is perfect for me!
When they start the hunt I hope no one confuses them with the hockey team.
Quite a beautiful work!
I've just read an article on threatened species, so so many of them including bees of course and our garden birds. Why one would want to lift protection for animals like this one is beyond me. And yet I'm not allowed to murder any pigeons...
How beautiful!
That is a great shot! I used to see panthers come out of the woods to drink from a pond near my grandparents' house when I was a kid. Sadly that beautiful place has been developed into million dollar condos now. I definitely don't think protection for these beautiful animals should be lifted though. Heck I don't think they should be allowing black bear hunting in Florida either, but what do I know!
Why? Has someone run out of exotic trophy animals?
He looks quite friendly here, though I wouldn't want to meet him in the wild!
Well, maybe the Boston Bruins. GOOOOOOOOOOOAL!
Ok, let me take it slow this time. Try reading my lips too. It's ice hockey, stupid! Get it Florida Panthers vs my Boston Bruins. Anymore explanation needed? GRIN.
Cracking good photographs (as they would say over here).
The logic of permitting some panthers to be culled is that they are wandering into civilization more often, scaring homeowners and occasionally eating some livestock. Of course, this is happening because humans have intruded for decades deep into THEIR habitat. There are only something like 200 remaining panthers and 20 - 30 per year are killed by collisions with cars. My attitude is that the humans need to suck it up and live with the occasional scared lady in her housecoat who finds a panther in her yard when she goes out to get the morning newspaper. The panthers are too rare to be killing any of them.
I had no idea that there were panthers in Florida Lowell, I really do love to learn something new each day, merci beaucoup!
Oh Goddess, I. Can't believe even governor Scott would allow the protection on these animals to be lifted. How can Florida be so naturally beautiful and still have so many people bent on destroying nature. ( rhetorical, I know the answer).
That's the kind of panther I like! We humans certainly have done a lot of damage to wildlife, haven't we?
