After 70 years, the Marion Theater in downtown Ocala, is still in business. It has been through some difficult times, but has survived by virtue of the goodwill and financial blessings of people in the community. Today it is showing "Hotel Transylvania 2" and "The Intern." It's the place to go if you're tired of "multiplexes" in "megaplexes."
I like the look of the place!
There was an historic theater like this in the next town over, Port Angeles. It was closed a couple of years ago because the chain that owned it didn't want to pay to upgrade the equipment to digital. A community group is trying to purchase it as a venue for live performances but they've still got an uphill climb to pull together $$$.
It looks fabulous, Lowell! It is so beautifully Art Deco - I hope it has some heritage protection!
Oh wow! That is wonderful. We used to have two theaters like this in downtown Tallahassee, but sadly they are gone now.
It looks beautiful!
I love the look of this theater, Lowell! It brings back fond memories for me of some old theaters that were here in Montreal and have either been torn down or repurposed. I miss the old theaters and it is because of this I just don't go to movies anymore, opting to watch movies at home either on YouTube or on the television. I am so glad that this theater is still there and is still open for business.
Single screens are such a rarity
Fantastic old theatre...
Enjoy your sunday my friend !
A proper theatre, it looks magnificent!
I like the sign and vintage architecture, great picture!
Wishing you a lovely day,
×thinking of changing my blog to wordpress or another.I'm tired of goggle control LOL
I remember once you have also changed your blog platform. Any advice? Please?
It's the place I'd choose every time Lowell :)
Not my kind of movies, but surely my kind of theater!
I love places like this. When I was traveling for work, I was always searching out the older movie theaters and I found some great ones in St. Louis especially.
LOVED "The Intern". No nudity. No Sex. No f-bombs. Still great. I give it 4****.
Judging from its lack of financial success, it does not cater to enough possible customers to be profitable. I wonder why?
The BEST kind of theatre. I dislike the multiplexes.
I like the look of these old movie theaters. Fort Myers had a similar one, but I think it is now just an office building.
I love the look of it from the outside. But I have to admit, I like the comfort of the multi-plex. And I'm "petite" so stadium style seating is a bonus for me!
Isn't it super that some communities still appreciate this kind of theatre?
I just love the Art Deco architecture, hope they will always preserve it.
Nice to know the old local theater still operates while many mini theaters has gone here in my part of the world.
