I always wondered about those. My sister-in-law has a couple of horses; they're good to keep the eyes protected from flies and such, and the animal can see fine.
I have never seen this before, Lowell. And your captions got a big grin out of me. :) They are beautiful and magnificent animals. Thank you so much for sharing. :)
It wasn't all that long ago when I finally asked somebody what those masks were for and how the horses could see. And I wished I'd asked when I was four years old and being dumb and curious was cute. But at least I know now.
Now I understand why thanks to William, too. I thought the reason was light which looks so bright in the photo. I didn’t think of bugs. Incidentally, when a woman wearing a mask, I wonder a cold, allergy, or non-make-up.

Thanks to William for explaining that the horse can see through his mask. I was worried.
Interesting! I've never seen that before, but I guess it is a good thing for the horses.
I know they are necessary, but they do look strange!
Well dressed animals indeed.

I wondered too why the eyes are covered.

You and your camera where a little break from the boredom. Horses are such beautiful animals.
Protecting them from bugs? Paparazzi? Inquiring minds want to know!
maybe they are sleepy
I'm glad to hear that they can see!
The masked marauders!
William answered the question I had, but these still look very funny.
Your visit was probably the highlight of their day!
