There are 200 + Baptist churches in our fair town. Some are independent of a larger body but many, if not most, are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
First Baptist is arguably the largest of these Baptist churches and is considered to have the most influence relative to the political life of the city because a number of Ocala's civic and business leaders are members.
There was a bit of a fracas here a few years ago. I'm not sure of all the issues, but some members wanted to rid the church of the pastor and others wanted to keep him. Ultimately, the pastor left, a new one arrived, and peace reigned once again.
Glory be!

It looks a lot like the First Baptist Church here, especially with those columns.
I am glad to hear that peace has been restored, Lowell. Beautiful photos!
It's a very grand structure.
This is a really great looking church, Lowell !
Because of the columns the entrance makes me think of a city hall, not so much a church. However the rest of the building does, with it's windows and the tower.
Yes... it looks like a typical Baptist church.
I had a bit of a chuckle over your "Glory be". ;-)
Quite impressive. We tend to have more Catholic, Anglican, and Presbyterian denominations, and fewer Baptist churches.
That's a very impressive looking church! Loved the 1st picture the best.
Apart from the steeple it doesn't look too much like a church Lowell, more like a town hall. I'm a big believer that religion and politics should never meet ☺
A classic design on this church. We have a couple around here that look much like this one.

Buena serie. La fachada es muy bonita. Me gustan.
Un abrazo.
This is a beautiful church. The red of bricks set off the white tower.

Conflicts exist everywhere, even in church congregations.
