First Presbyterian Church - Palatka, Florida

First Presbyterian Church in Palatka, Florida, is located on a beautiful site very near the St. John's River.  It is a substantial congregation, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), the more liberal of the Presbyterian groups.

The congregation offers worship services and study opportunities along with a variety of social programs, and believes part of its mission is to help meet the needs of the larger local community.

As you can see, the church building is quite impressive.  A stand-out feature is the bell tower which faces the St. John's River.

Kane's Furniture Store - Ocala

Kane's Furniture has been a fixture in Ocala for a number of years.  It is an eclectic store, offering something for most everyone...from Florida kitsch, to mid-century modern, to Hollywood glamour to French Provincial, etc.

Above are a few scenes showing a small portion of what the store offers the discerning or not-so-discerning buyer.

Women Bikers Take Over Cedar Key

We thought we'd take a nice leisurely drive over to Cedar Key.  It's about 75 miles west of where we live in Ocala.

Coming up Highway 19, we were overtaken by a group of women bikers, most of whom were driving beautiful Harleys.  I'm guessing there were about 30 people in the group.

They turned left on County Road 24 and we followed.  Sure enough they led us right into Cedar Key.

At that point they went their way and we went ours.  We saw some on the Dock later, and ran into a couple of other women bikers who were not part of the group, but said some of the women were their friends.

As we left, we noted the women's bikes still parked on the bridge, and another smaller group of bikers heading into the dock.

There's just something about Cedar Key that calls to Bikers everywhere!

New York Yankees Car

The word, "fan," derives from "fanatic." A fan, therefore, is fanatical about something or someone. Sports fans are noted for their fanaticism. Some sports fans go to extreme lengths to show their love for their favorite team or player.

The owner of this car would seem to be a fanatical fan of the New York Yankees baseball team; so much so that he had his car painted with the same stripes that are worn on the uniforms of New York Yankees players.

I don't understand this, but then I'm fanatical about other things. But what those things are shall remain a mystery.

Okay, one of them is photography.  You got it out of me.  Sheesh!  Are you happy now?

Rainbow in an afternoon storm...

It was late afternoon and a thunderstorm was passing through and I looked out the window and saw this across the fields behind our house. The photo was taken with one of my small Sony cameras, but the zoom worked and I was able to hold it steady enough so the shot came out fairly well.

Gun Boat

This gunboat was located in the St. John's River near Palatka, Florida. It reminds me of a small gunboat used by US troops on the rivers of Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Willow Weep for Me

If I don't visit your blogs tomorrow it may be because I can't. A hurricane by name of Matthew has decided to visit Ocala - not directly, but close enough. So, we're battening down the hatches and securing what we can and hanging on until the sun shines again on Saturday. I think we'll be fine. It's the poor folks living in the coastal areas that are going to have real problems.

Trump's Signature Collection Shirt

Trump's "Signature Collection" shirts are not made in the USA.  Surprised?  They are made sometimes in China, sometimes in Bangladesh, or sometimes they are said to be "Imported".  But, as he proudly claims, he's smart to take advantage of the law to make a profit.  In this case even if that profit comes at the expense of children laboring in Asian sweatshops.

This particular shirt, surprisingly, was hanging on a rack in this Burlington store.  I say, "surprisingly," because I've never seen a Trump shirt of any kind before.  Burlington is noted for marking down their merchandise to somewhat "affordable" prices.  This store is relatively new to Ocala and we've shopped there a few times.  I never buy much, though, as I can get higher quality at cheaper prices at the high-end shops when they have a sale.

In addition, the Burlington store in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (actually in Sunrise, Florida) got in trouble as few years back for selling goods with faux labels.  In other words the goods you were buying were not what they claimed to be.  I can't remember the resolution of the case, unfortunately.

Ye Olde Abandoned Truck - Brownwood, The Villages

We've posted photos of this old truck before on our The Villages blog, but it seems to fit October's theme of "Abandoned" quite well. Actually, it may be abandoned but has found new life as a city artifact in the newest of downtowns of The Villages, Brownwood.

The City Daily Photo theme for October 1 is "Abandoned."  You can check out other takes on the theme here.
