In my original post here I called these birds, "cowbirds." I've heard that for years and assumed it was because they hung around cattle. I was wrong. These are cattle egrets, a species of heron. They came to Florida from Canada some years back.
They do look like herons, maybe that's another name for them when they are around cattle. I don't know too much about birds and are they real because they do look rather stiff like ornaments. :)
These egrets may spend their summers here in SD as they are a common sight for a few months of the year. They are great looking birds and make for good photos.

Now that is something you don't see in Arizona. That is quite a congregation.
Are those really Cowbirds? Cowbirds out here are small black birds with brown heads

Is that just what you call them Lowell, or really their name? They look a little like herons to moi?
Such elegant birds, Lowell !
A perfect ornament for the fence :)
A handy perch!

A new one for me Lowell. Interesting!
They all seem to wonder where the cows went off to.

So many of them, Lowell! They look as if they are waiting for something!
Definitely egrets but I'm not sure that they came from Canada. Did you check their passports?
They're called cattle egrets out here. They're smaller than great herons.
An interesting scenery. The egrets look like on sentry duty guarding the farm.

I've always called them cowbirds too! I've never seen them sitting on fences like that.
Seems they have a lot of business to do.
Good catches of herons. They were very calm in the sun.
Un abrazo.
